dc.description.abstractLas enfermedades cerebrovasculares son un grupo de trastornos frecuentes y en ocasiones devastadores, agrupados dentro de dos grandes categorías: isquémicos y hemorrágicos. En el ECV isquémico, la afectación del tallo cerebral es infrecuente. Se presenta el caso de un paciente hipertenso y diabético, de 64 años con un cuadro de instauración súbita de hemiparesia derecha y alteraciones contralaterales del tercero, cuarto, sexto y séptimo nervio craneal, maniestaciones oculares diplopía nistamo que definieron una oftalmopleía internuclear. La localización toporfica de la lesión se corroboró mediante una resonancia magnética cerebral. Se hace un breve abordaje etiológico de las causas probables en esta interesante e inusual presentación del ECV isquémico.
dc.description.abstractCerebrovascular diseases include some of the most common and devastating disorders. It is known to be the second cause of death worldwide. To teach the public the common physical symptoms of a stroke, the acronym FAST is used, which refers to face (facial weakness), arms (weakness in the arms), speech (speech alteration) and time (time). In this article, we present a case report of a patient with a sudden onset of diplopia with right eye deviation, which was accompanied by dizziness, vertigo, nystagmus, and some cranial nerves’ alterations. The patient also manifests a unilateral internuclear ophthalmoplegia. Given the diagnostic suspicion of an ischemic stroke, a cerebral CAT scan, an MRI, and a carotid Doppler were ordered. Subsequently, the results are evaluated and the possible etiologies of the stroke in our patient are analyzed.
