Las tecnologías de la información y comunicación en la gestión académica y admisnitrativa de la secretaría general de la Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí, Panamá.
Resumen
Today’s society is immersed in a process of transformation, with the advent of the
Internet and the increasingly consistent use of technological resources revolutionizing the
way we organize, work, relate, and learn. This requires the human being to be trained in
their competencies, innovate, and undertake tasks through constant updating. As an
administrative unit that centralizes, coordinates, organizes, serves, archives, and keeps all
documentation related to the teaching staff, students, and activities relating to the entire
university, the Secretariat- General has the task of providing the necessary platform in
conjunction with the Academic Viceroyalty, the Research and Postgraduate Vice-Rectorate,
and the academic units so that the processes of admission, permanence, and promotion of
students are carried out properly. For this reason, the objective was set to analyze
information and communication technologies (ICTs) and their transcendence in the
academic and administrative management of the General Secretariat of The Autonomous
University of Chiriquí.
A descriptive, explanatory study, focusing on mixed research and considering the
combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, studied the variables of academic
management, administrative management, and information and communication
technologies in a population consisting of 10,017 students, 721 faculty members, 11
administrative secretaries, 33 administrative officers of the Secretariat-General, and one
associate officer of the Viceroyalty.
The statistical analysis showed that the perception, user expectations, and benefits
of the service are satisfactory. However, manual and automated processes are currently
being carried out, which does not allow the development of processes to be the most
appropriate to carry out efficient, effective, and timely procedures in the different functions
that are performed. Therefore, the educational manager of the General Secretariat must
make assertive decisions that will favor the processes that will be decisive not only in the
unit but in all the assistant deans and academic units that complement it, automating all
processes in a quality internet service, as well as the implementation of training days for its
staff on topics specific to the unit and the programs used by the staff, not forgetting to make
known the respective procedures of the procedures to students, teachers, and administrative
staff of the different academic units.
