dc.description.abstractThe rapid increase in the world population, a food demand, has led to an increase in the production and commercialization of synthetic fertilizers, in order to obtain a higher yield per hectare of crop.The objective of this article is to perform an analysis of the situation of fertilizers in the world and the importation of these products in Panama.A documentary review of the databases of the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic of Panama and documents related to the subject was carried out. It was found that the main importer of fertilizers in Panama is Costa Rica, despite not being a producer country. In addition, Panamais one of the countries of Central America that applies the least amount of fertilizer per hectare of crop.es_ES
