| dc.description.abstract | The acuatic plants of Panama are distributed from sea level to and grow in numerous, habitats that do not occupy large extensions. However, in their entity they from an important part of the flora and vegetation of the country, thus stdying, describing and knowing aquatic plants is of vital importance. The principle objective of the present study is the descrpition of the aquatic vascular flora and vegetation of the David district in the Chiriquí province, Panamá. Numerous contitnental aquatic fresh water ecosystems were visited, and aquatic plants were collected using adequate techniques. Included in the present study are identification keys to families, general and species of aquatic plants, and the life forms of plant communities that are present in the area are described. The aquatic flora in the David district comprises 35 plant families, 57 genera and 99 species. Five of the species are subaquatic, 95, species are acautic, five are subaquatic and 18 species are tolerant. In the district the aquatic vegetation can be divided in five life forms: emergent and rooted hidrophytes are represented by 79 species, submerged en rooted hydrophytes by one speciaes, free submerged and free floating hydrophyutes each by four species, hidrophytes with a prostrarting thallus by three species, and hydrophytes with floating leaves by seven species. The different aquatic ecosystems in the David district are swamps that include 84 species of aquatic plants, seasonal pools with 32 species, lakes with 27 species, streams with 22 species, rivers with 19 species and canals with six species. According to the red list of plants for Panamá one species found in the district David, Maranthrum miniflorum, is considered to be vulnerable, indicating that the study of the biodiversitry of aquatic plants in the occident of Panama is of great importance. The present study contribute to the knowledge of the aquatic vascular flora and vegetation of the Chiriquí province and Panama in general. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Las plantas acuáticas en Panamá, se distribuyen desde el nivel del mar hasta altitudes cercanas a los 1 600 msnm., pasando por una variedad de hábitat que con frecuencia no ocupan grandes extensiones, pero que en su conjunto forman parte importante de la flora y la vegetación del país, por lo que el estudiar, describir y conocer la flora y la vegetación acuática es de vital importancia. En este sentido, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo principal el describir a flora y la vegetación acuática vascular del Distrito de David, Provincia de Chiriquí, llevando a cabo visitas a los ecosistemas acuáticos continentales de agua dulce presentes en el área, colectando las plantas con las técnicas adecuadas. Se incluyen claves de identificación, se definición las familias, géneros y especies, así como las formas de vida de las comunidades vegetales existentes en el área. La flora acuática está constituida principalmente por 35 familias, 57 géneros y 99 especies, Las Dicotiledóncas están representadas por 44 especies, las Monocotiledóneas por 48 y las Pteridophyta y afines por siete. De acuerdo con el lugar donde crecen cinco especies son subacuáticas, 94 acuáticas, cinco subacuáticas y 18 tolerantes. Seis formas de vida de la vegetación acuática se manifiestan en el Distrito: las hidrófitas enraizadas emergentes con 79 especies, las enraizadas sumergidas con una, las librebrebremente con cuatro, las libremente flotadoras con cuatro, las de tallo postrado tres, las de hojas flotantes con siete La flora de los diferentes sistemas acuáticos del Distrito de David está constituida por ciénagas 19 Y con 84 especies, charcas 32 lagos con 27, arroyos con 22, ríos con 19 y canales con seis. De acuerdo con la lista roja para la flota de Panamá, una especie (maratbrum minutiflorum) está considerada como vulnerable, razón por la que estudios sobre la diversidad de plantas acuáticas en el occidente de Panamá son de primordial importancia. Ante esto, el presente estudio contribuye al conocimiento de la flora y la vegetación acuáticas vasculares de la Provincia de Chiriquí y en general de la República de Panamá. | |
