| dc.description.abstract | A study was conducted in two plots at the Fortuna Forest Reserve and one plot at Palo Seco Protected Forest to estimate the fine root biomass and the annualproduction of fine roots using the "ingrowth core" method. Additionally, the stored carbon in fine roots was estimated present at the beginning of the study and during one year. At the beginning of the study the average biomass of fine roots less than 2 mm in diameter at a depth of 10 cm was 4.5 Mg ha-1 with a 2 stored carbon of 2.5 Mg C ha-1. The fine root biomass at the start of the study showed differences between the plots. The average annual production of fine roots was 1.87 Mg ha-1 a year and the stored carbon was 0.94 Mg C ha-1 The fine root production in the three plots showed no difference during one year and was not affected either by precipitation or altitude. Soil bulk density was similar in the three plots of the study. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Se realizó un estudio en dos parcelas de la Reserva ForestaI Fortuna y una parcela de Bosque Protector Palo Seco, para estimar la biomasa radical y la producción anual de raíces finas presente en las áreas de estudio, utilizando el método "lngrowth core". Además, se estimó el carbono almacenado presente al inicio del estudio y durante un año. Se encontró un promedio de biomasa de 4.5 Mg ha-1 de raíces finas < de 2 mm de diámetro a una profundidad de 10 cm y el carbono almacenado fue 2.5 Mg C ha-1 al inicio del estudio. La biomasa de raíces finas al inicio del estudio mostró diferencias entre las parcelas. Mientras que, la producción promedio anual de raíces finas fue de 1.87 Mg ha-1 año-1 y el carbono almacenado fue 0.94 Mg C ha-1 año-1. La producción de raíces finas no mostró diferencias durante un año y no se ve influida ni por la precipitación ni por la altitud. La densidad aparente del suelo fue similar en los 3 sitios de estudio. | |
