From environmental problems arises the concern to know the impact generated by human activities and make sustainable decisions to increase water efficiency. The water footprint methodology invented by Arjen Hoekstra succeeded in establishing the global standard for accounting for water use. The study of thewater footprint in Panama seeks to promote in organizations the environmental and social impact of the use of water as consumers.El agua es un recurso fundamental para la economía panameña y está involucrada en todas las actividades que realiza el ser humano. El patrón de consumo representa importantes retos para los próximos años. A partir de los problemas ambientales surge la preocupación de conocer el impacto generado por las actividades humanas y tomar decisiones sostenibles para aumentar la eficiencia hídrica. La metodología la huella hídrica inventada por Arjen Hoekstra logró establecer el estándar global de contabilización del uso del agua. El estudio de la huella hídrica en Panamá busca propiciar en las organizaciones el impacto medioambiental y social del uso del agua como consumidores.
