Abstract
This research aims to identify the condition of abandonment of the elderly, the subsistence context
and coping strategies.
The environment where this study is developed is located in a rural environment of the Province
of Chiriquí, District of David, specifically in the Corregimiento of San Carlos, where the social
setting is located, that is, the homes in which the participating social actors reside. the
investigation.
The approach used is qualitative with its respective characteristics, the scope is descriptive,
explanatory, considering the phenomenological design which emphasizes the individual and
subjective meaning that older adults give to their experience. The study uses two types of sample
for convenience and homogeneous. Regarding the techniques for collecting information,
participant observation and semi-structured interviews are used, allowing the interpretation of the
results, in relation to the condition of abandonment of the elderly, the subsistence context and
coping strategies.
It is important to highlight that the results arise from the interaction between the researcher and
the social actors, fostering an intersubjective encounter that manages to interpret the reality of
older adults in a consensual manner, establishing agreements between the participants.
