| dc.description.abstract | Panama's privileged geographical position, together with its maritime infrastructure, areof crucial importance for international trade and for the panamanianeconomy. This is mainly due to the Panama Canal and the traffic that connects a good part of the northern hemisphere; Between the east, west, north and south, but more importantly among one of the most densely loaded routes; Asia with the east coast of the United States and Europe. Regionally, the Panama Canal represents a strategic connectivity center, providing access to more than 1,700 ports weekly, and domestically for Panama, the interoceanic region has gained importance for the national economy as the maritime and logistics sectors represent more than 33% of the Panama's gross domestic product, according to measurements made by the consulting firm INTRACORP (foritsacronym in Spanish) in 2014. The purpose of this article is to examine thePanamanian maritime cluster, its strengths and weaknesses, and to analyze how it can be used for the development of Panama as a regional logistics centerthat promotes and facilitates panamanian exports. | es_ES |
