dc.description.abstractThe following research has the general objective of verifying if bird watching is a didactic alternative for environmental interpretation, in the students of the Bachelor of Tourism with emphasis in Ecological Tourism of Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí. The methodological approach is mixed, since three instruments were used: a survey applied to 7 teachers, 16 students (questionnaire 1) and 7 specialists in Tourism and Environment. On the other hand, a checklist was used to find out relevant aspects of the academic and personal area of the career study plan. In addition, a checklist was used to verify that an interpretive route contributes to the development of knowledge of the environment and tourism. This checklist was applied to 6 students. Regarding the type of research, it is explanatory, since it focused on collecting information related to the teaching of environmental interpretation and its importance to develop environmental and tourism issues. Also, an analysis of the study plan was carried out, to determine its strengths and weaknesses in the problem. Furthermore, it is explanatory, pre-experimental; According to the moment in which the data is collected, it is cross-sectional, with a descriptive scope, since it investigates whether bird watching optimizes the teaching of environmental interpretation in the students of the Tourism Degree with an emphasis on Ecological Tourism. For the quantitative analysis and to verify the reliability of the instrument, the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was applied, resulting in 0.895 for teachers, which indicated good, as well as the instrument for Tour Operators, resulting in 0.854. However, for the students (questionnaire 1) it was 0.699 and 0.649 for the checklist. In conclusion, the study evidenced the importance of bird watching to promote the teaching of environmental interpretation in the subjects of the Tourism Degree with an emphasis on Ecological Tourism, for which a proposal for a manual about an Interpretive Script focused to bird watching.en_US
